2006-2011 - Trial Judge, Santa Clara County - Assigned Judge Program
As an assigned judge, Judge Hansen presided over civil, probate and criminal cases.
1986-2011 - Superior Court Judge, Santa Clara County
During his twenty (20) years on the bench, Judge Hansen served fourteen (14) years as a Civil and Criminal Trial Judge. Presided over numerous trials involving: Personal Injury, Professional Negligence, Excess Force, Employment Disputes, Public Entity Liability, Eminent Domain
- 2003 – 2004 Presiding Judge
- 1998 – 2000 Supervising Judge, Probate Division
Judge Hansen was assigned to the Probate Division for three (3) years, where he mediated and case managed hundreds of cases to resolution, involving: Will and Trust, Contests, Undue Influence, Financial, Elder Abuse, Contested Conservatorships, Petitions to Remove Executors or Trustees, AccountingDisputes
- 1987 – 1988 Civil Law and Motion Judge Having served in the Law and Motion department, Judge Hansen has an understanding of discovery disputes and procedural issues in civil cases.
- 1986 Appointed to the Santa Clara County Superior Court by Governor Deukmejian, and was reelected in 1992, 1998 and 2004.

- As a partner at one of the oldest law firms in San Jose, Judge Hansen represented parties in civil and criminal litigation
